Curriculum-linked Activities for Schools

(See School Visits page for more information)

For schools we offer curriculum-linked activities, based on exploration and investigation in our woods and meadows – but always with a big emphasis on fun.

Our outdoor learning opportunities cover a range of subjects and we are happy to discuss your requirements.  We can also provide teacher training and twilight sessions both here and at your own site!

We have programmes and activities for Early Years, Primary and Secondary pupils and can adapt our sessions for different ages, different needs and abilities and for different sites.

Activities for families and other Visitors

Our activity programme includes events like the Science Discovery Day and Dawn Chorus Walk in the spring, ‘Nightworld’ event in July, themed walks around the District and our holiday activity walks at Rosliston. See our Special Events page for more details relating to specific events.

Nightworld Event

There are also downloadable programmes for our led Walks and ‘Wildlife Watch’ Family Activities on that page, plus downloadable family trails e.g Sculpture Trail and a link to be added to our mailing list for environmental events.

If you enjoy finding out about trees, you can follow our ‘Tree Trail’ which starts opposite the garden (see Site Map).  Some of our tree trail information is online at http://www.landshapes.org/learning/Treewise.php

Every Monday, we run a Gardening Drop in Session.  By joining in with gardening activities you can increase your fitness levels, help us with the garden, and learn some basic gardening skills at the same time. Follow this link for more information about Drop-in-Gardening-2017-2018

About us

We have been working with visitors, families and schools since 1994, helping shape environmental education in South Derbyshire and across The National Forest.

We are part of South Derbyshire District Council, supported by The National Forest company, Rolls Royce plc and The Forestry Commission.

In April 2013 we were awarded the “Quality Badge” for Learning Outside the Classroom, following a rigorous inspection by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC):  the outdoor learning version of Ofsted!

Our Manager, Kate won the 2014 CLOtC National ‘Lifetime Achievement’ Award for her work leading our team here at Rosliston and we have featured in Derbyshire Life (2015) and The Times Educational Supplement (2009)

We helped the Woodland Trust write and deliver their Jubilee project for schools across the UK and we also develop and deliver work for other partner organisations and schools.

Can we help you?
