See the Centre
Don't just stay close to the visitor centre buildings at Rosliston
- start to wander and you will soon find plenty more to keep everyone
in your group happy.
Follow one of the waymarked walks and begin to discover many species
of birds and animals for yourself. The variety of birds on site include
kestrels, owls, kingfishers and a range of field and woodland birds
such as skylarks, lapwings and buntings. Watch them feeding from the
purpose-built wildlife hide and, if you are lucky, spot a vole or rabbit.
On summer evenings bats may be seen at dusk - several different species
make their home here.
Between 1994 and 1996 120,000 trees were planted on the site, creating
a young woodland, but you will also find mature trees in the rich and
varied hedgerows and in Fox Covert.
Various species of waterfowl, some resident, some visitors, make good
use of the Flight Pond and Greenheart Lake. The lake is generously stocked
and offers anglers the promise of a good catch.
There are two memorial woods on the site, snowdrop + bluebell wood,
the trees have plaques with them to record details of who they
are for and are maintained by the Friends of Rosliston Wood.
All around the site areas of meadow have been left unplanted and in
the summer are rich with butterflies and other insects. They also serve
as home to voles and other small mammals which encourages owls and kestrels
to frequent the site.
Start to look around and you'll find Rosliston offers a natural
world of discovery.
