Repair Cafe: Guidance Notes/ House Rules

Our Repair Cafe is an informal, accessible and (we hope) enjoyable way to get stuff fixed and have a chat with likeminded people.

However we are required to publish Guidance Notes/ House Rules / Disclaimer for insurance purposes and so that we are all clear what is on offer !

Please make sure you read/ follow the info below when you bring something for repair, and ask if there’s anything that you aren’t sure about:

Guidance Notes / House Rules/ Disclaimer (this version is also on the paper forms)

All repairs carried out at the Repair Café Rosliston SDDC are performed at the customer’s own risk.

  • The advice and repair service is conducted by experienced and competent volunteers and there is no charge
  • Donations are welcomed – these help cover costs including the purchase of tools and equipment and the development of the service.
  • All customers are required to complete a registration form before any repairs can be contemplated. A separate registration form must be completed for each item.
  • If the Repair Café is busy, customers will be able to have one item repaired but may need to rejoin queue for additional items. A time limit per item may be applied eg 1 hr.
  • Customers are expected to remain with the repairer while the repair is being carried out in order to see how the repair is being done and to learn new skills.   Should the customer decide to leave the repairer at any point, we can not take responsibility for the security and storage of the item and it is left at your own risk.
  • Neither the organisers of Repair Café Rosliston SDDC nor the repairers in personal capacities or otherwise offer any guarantee for any repairs carried out with or without their help and are not liable for:
    • any loss or injury whatsoever that may result from any repair carried out…for any advice or instructions given and used at a later date
    • for any accidental damage that may occur to goods….

…if any repaired items do not work properly at home or break down again in the future.

  • Should advice be given about the safety of any item, this will be logged at the time and a photograph taken of any faulty components
  • The customer is responsible for providing any consumables such as leads, plugs, fuses, zips, etc. that may be needed to fully complete a repair. Advice will be given on what is required.

PLEASE NOTE:

  1. Customers are responsible for the removal of all items that cannot be repaired.
  2. Items will be examined on arrival. Repair Café Rosliston SDDC staff and volunteers reserve the right to refuse to accept for repair any item that is considered too dangerous and/or damaged or obviously beyond repair.
  3. Potentially dangerous tools and equipment are present in the repair zone and sometimes used in repairs.  Parents must exercise control over, and be responsible for, the behaviour of their children whilst attending the Repair Café.
