Our Story

About us:

We are a partnership site in The National Forest, on the border of Derbyshire and Staffordshire.

Forestry England own and manage 144 acres – most of the woodland – and South Derbyshire District Council own the remaining 10 acres and manage the Visitor Centre and the site for Visitors. We’ve enjoyed our partnership and shared aims for almost 30 years.

Our story began with the planting of 120,000 trees between 1993 and 1997, creating a young woodland intertwined with the existing trees in the hedgerows and in Fox Covert.

Rosliston is a living forest just waiting to be explored.

This is an example of when our Partners work together with our regular volunteer groups:

The Forestry Centre

Rosliston Forestry Centre lies at the heart of The National Forest, a woodland haven offering outdoor activities, family fun and all-year round events.

This South Derbyshire attraction is home to kestrels, owls and kingfishers as well as bats and butterflies in summer, while Rosliston’s mix of woodland, fishing lake, walks, cycle routes – plus cycle hire– and play areas is tailor-made for a great family day out.

Our Forest Lodges

But there’s more. Our six, secluded Forest Lodges each provide luxury holiday accommodation and are all fully wheelchair accessible. We are also renowned as a romantic location for outdoor weddings in The Glade, a leafy setting in the woods with a hand-carved wooden gazebo for both wedding ceremonies and marquee receptions.
